Furthermore, we recently received a special gift from director and film producer Brigitte Kramer: her best-known filmmaking works include the portraits of choreographer Sasha Waltz (Garten der Lüste: Die Choreografin Sasha Waltz, 2007) and filmmaker Ulrike Ottinger (Ulrike Ottinger: Die Nomadin vom See, 2012). As an editor for “Das Kleine Fernsehspiel” (ZDF), she promoted debut works by international filmmakers in the 1980s.

For documenta 10 (1997), she coordinated and produced the contributions by Charles Burnett, Harun Farocki, Antonia Lerch, Raoul Peck and Alexander Sokurov, which were shown in the Bali cinemas in the Kulturbahnhof and therefore formed the prelude to the parcours through the exhibition.

Above all, however, Brigitte Kramer accompanied the Artistic Director of documenta 10, Catherine David, on her international research travels between Kassel, Paris, Venice and São Paulo for more than two years. She recorded interviews and conversations with artists and documented discussions and press conferences as well as editorial meetings, inspections and field trips with project participants in Kassel.

Kramer's systematic video documentation of the preparations for the exhibition ultimately resulted in the 48-minute film portrait "Reise zu den Bildern: Catherine David und die documenta X" (1997). (“Journey to the Pictures: Catherine David and documenta X”, Jörg Jeshel/Theo Roos, ZDF 1997).

The recently arrived master tapes and the raw film material are currently being catalogued in the documenta archiv. The collection comprises many hours of film material on more than 70 cassettes in Betacam format: a contemporary historical treasure trove on the global perspective of documenta 10 and, last but not least, a unique video logbook of the curator Catherine David.
