New addition to the Art Library's collection: the artist publication METRONOME (1996–2021)
A new highlight in the documenta archiv: in mid-April, curator Clémentine Deliss presented us with the complete collection of all issues of her traveling publication METRONOME (1996–2021).
The multifaceted artist publication is a unique example of artistic-curatorial work and international cooperation.
Inspired by historical models, such as the magazine DOCUMENTS (1929–1921) founded by Georges Bataille or the writings of the Viennese Actionists, METRONOME has functioned as an independent space for transdisciplinary experiments since its first issue in Dakar (Senegal) in 1996: The issues, published irregularly and in changing formats, reflect changing working contexts and conceptual approaches. As an extra-institutional alternative to the exhibition business, METRONOME allows artists, writers and theorists from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds to enter into dialog with each other. The media of text and image always meet at eye level.
Clémentine Deliss was twice part of the documenta in Kassel with METRONOME: in 1997 and 2007.
In addition to the twelve issues of METRONOME, she presented the documenta archiv with all the publications in the METRONOME PRESS series (2005) and a collection of posters, invitation cards and other ephemera.
Clémentine Deliss' lecture in the context of "100 Days 100 Guests" (documenta 10, 1997) can be viewed on request in the documenta archiv.
