We still vividly remember Lawrence Weiner's visits to Kassel, his last participation in a documenta exhibition in 2012 at documenta 13, his serene interviews in exhibition spaces filled to the bursting point and, never least, his gift to all of Kassel's fellow citizens - his work "THE MIDDLE OF THE MIDDLE OF THE MIDDLE OF" on the facade of the Hugonottenhaus in Friedrichsstraße near Kassel's city hall. Almost like a guiding beacon for the future, this intervention in public space evokes the ever-living place of creative manifestations and Kassel's city life.

Where is the middle point of a city? Where is the middle point of art? Who answers these questions?

With his death, the art world has lost a conceptual artist of a very special calibre. We will keep him in our midst and send our sincere condolences to all those who mourn him.
